Slim, World’s Scrooge
Mexican Miser Makes More Than Gates
Fat Cats living in laps of luxury
Bill Gates’ 15 year reign as the world’s richest man
has ended. Carlos Slim took this opportunity to steal the
title by hoarding over 35.7 billion pounds.
Gates’ drop was due to his gifting of 58 billion to charity. However Mr. Slim’s opinion is very diferant, he claims “Poverty isn’t solved with donations.” Slim has seen his company’s prices rocket since the recession started, making over 20 billion through his family company Telecom. Critics have questioned whether he deserves the title of “richest man in the world” because of his Scrooge like behaviour. Slim meanly refuses to part with his riches, even to charities, unlike his rival. At a time of recession, the increasing number of billionaires will no doubt anger the people who are loosing their property and children because they can not afford to keep them. The top five richest people in the world control a total amount of 141 billion pounds, gaining 10% of their total amount per month. This figure is nearly as big as the GDP of Northern Ireland .
